Standing Horse – “The Beginning”
The Standing Horse Singers officially started in May of 2007, at the Standing Rock High School powwow, Ft. Yates, ND. Standing Horse consists of singers from the Dakota, Lakota, and Umo’nhon nations. It is from their experiences with their grandparents’ and other relatives, which have influenced them to begin their journey as a drum group. These experiences have taught them the basic foundation of the Lakota/Dakota values of carrying yourself with respect, as well as to respect those around you.
